"Growing up on a farm in a small town, I’ve always loved to be active and I played almost every sport that was available in my small high school, but I first fell in love with track when I was in seventh grade. It was our first track meet and my middle school coach signed me up for the mile. I agreed for one race, but never planned on continuing until that first gold medal. I fell in love with distance and continued to compete in track and cross-country all through high school. My events were the mile, the 800, the 400, and the 4 x 8. I also competed frequently in high jump and 300 m hurdles.
My favorite track meet memory is from the Regional track meet my freshman year of high school. I was on a 4x8 team with my sister and three other seniors. We started out behind that race and I was running the last leg. I was standing on the track, so excited for the opportunity to compete with this team at state and ready to give everything I had. We finished the race in 2nd place and went on to compete at state and break a school record. My coaches had such an impact in helping me recognize my potential. I love working with athletes in Track and Field and helping others set and accomplish goals and watching their ability grow to meet their potential."
